Steamboat, CO, Saturday-Sunday 10JAN04-11JAN04 (Jon Speare)

I skied Steamboat two weekends ago for the
first time ever. It is a nice resort but there's very little western-style
steep skiing. It was mostly trail skiing with a few short gladed areas. They
just opened a steep gladed area that was very fun but unfortunately a little
short. It reminded me a little of Red Mountain. There was a Rocky Mountain
Freestyle mogul contest there that weekend and I wanted to get over to see
if Calen was competing but wasn't able to. You should ask Byron to see if he
competed. This weekend we're heading to Vail to spend a night at the Shrine
Mountain Inn (which is a 10th Mountain Division hut located close to Vail
Pass) and then spend a night with my friends in Vail and hopefully ski the
area. I'll send a report. Hopefully we'll get more snow. We got a lot over
new years but it's been dry since.
