December 31st, 2012 – Waterbury Winter Weather Event #2 Updates

Monday, December 31st, 2012

It might have been earlier, but light snow was falling here by 9:00 P.M.  I just checked the snowboard, and there’s about a tenth of an inch of accumulation down – I was surprised to see that the flakes are actually graupel.  It looks like some additional precipitation is heading this way:

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013

Event totals: 1.7” Snow/0.10” L.E.

We picked up 0.3” of snow yesterday evening before midnight that I’ll throw into my December snow total, and then there was another 1.4” on the board this morning that will go into January.  So, December 2012 snowfall goes into my books with an above average 49.5”, it edges out December 2010 (46.0”) to end up in third place for my December snowfall records, and it bumps the December mean about an inch here to 42.7 ± 16.9”.
